Box Score 2 Irving, Texas - Trinity's 15th-ranked baseball team opened a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road series with a pair of wins at the University of Dallas on Saturday afternoon.
The doubleheader featured outstanding pitching by the Tigers, as well as 32 combined hits over two seven-inning games. Both games were shortened due to the 10-run rule, beginning with Trinity's 11-1 victory to start the day. Game two was a 10-0 shutout for the Tigers, which pushed the team's record to 21-5 overall and 6-5 in SCAC play.
Matt Tindall threw a complete-game two-hitter to set the tone for the day, allowing one unearned run to go with seven strikeouts. Ryan Gray pitched six scoreless innings in game two, striking out five batters, and allowing just one hit. Nick Griffith finished off the win with a 1-2-3 final inning. Tindall improved to 2-1 on the year, while Gray remained undefeated at 5-0.
Drew Butler led an offensive onslaught in game one, going 4-5 with five RBI to lead an 18-hit attack from the Tigers. Connor Moore added a 3-5 performance with three runs scored. Jeremy Wolf went 2-4 with three RBI, while Austin Singer and Beau Attyah each contributed two hits and two runs scored. Colin Serkowski and Carter McEachern also had two hits each.
The Tigers scored in each of the first three innings, most of which came during a six-run second inning that effectively sealed the win since Tindall didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning. Dallas scored its only run that inning, but it would be the only score of the day for the home team.
McEachern added a team-best three hits in the second game, while Serkowski was 2-3 with a double, a triple, and three more runs scored. Wolf added two more hits and two more RBI to his day, while Beau Attyah also nabbed two more hits. Nick Jewett went 2-4, and was one of eight Trinity players to combine for a team total of 14 hits.
Trinity started the game with a two-run first, then after two scoreless innings, the Tigers plated runs in each of the next four innings - including a four-run sixth - to push the lead to 10-0. Along with the 32-hit day, Trinity's offense also struck out just twice in the doubleheader.
The two teams wrap up the three-game weekend series with a game at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. The Tigers also won three non-conference games earlier in the year, and will be attempting to sweep the regular season series on Sunday. Trinity returns home next weekend with a three-game conference series against Schreiner University.
