Box Score Irving, Texas - The Tiger baseball team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series sweep with a 5-0 shutout win over the University of Dallas on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity has won six of its last seven games, including a pair of run-rule victories over the Crusaders in yesterday's doubleheader. The Tigers won 11-1 and 10-0 to open the series on Saturday, and also swept a three-game non-conference series from Dallas earlier this year.
The Tiger offense was held in check for much of the game, though the team did pick up a total of nine hits. Trinity scored the first run of the game on back-to-back two-out hits by Austin Singer and Beau Attyah. That would prove to be enough in today's game, but Jeremy Wolf's fifth-inning grand slam added four more insurance runs to be sure.
Trent Rape (3-2) and Teddy Turner combined for the eight-hit shutout. Rape struck out eight over seven innings, allowing six hits. Turner allowed a pair of hits over the final two innings, adding three more strikeouts. Neither hurler yielded a walk in the game.
Singer finished 2-3 with a double and a run scored, while Attyah's only hit drove in the eventual game-winning run. Wolf's only hit of the day was the long ball that broke the game open, while Drew Butler also picked up a pair of hits in the win.
Trinity will play its fifth consecutive road game on Tuesday, taking on Our Lady of the Lake University for the second time. The Saints defeated the Tigers 7-4 at Trinity earlier in the year, snapping an eight-game winning streak. The Tigers return home next weekend, facing Schreiner University in a three-game SCAC series. The teams play at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with Saturday being a doubleheader.
