Box Score San Antonio - The 15th-ranked Trinity baseball team secured a three game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with Schreiner University with a 9-0 shutout victory Sunday.
The Tigers (25-10, 10-5 SCAC) also won a three-game non-conference series in March against the Mountaineers in Kerrville, Texas. Schreiner dropped to 5-30 overall, and 2-13 in conference play.
Sunday's game was punctuated by two home runs, adding to the four round-trippers hit in Saturday's doubleheader wins. Carter McEachern swatted a solo shot in the fifth inning, his first homer of the season. Liam Rihela also posted his first home run of the campaign, another solo blast in the eighth that was also the first of his career.
The game was never really in doubt, particularly since Trinity scored seven runs in the first five innings of play. All of the Tiger runs were earned, to go with 12 hits. Trinity did not commit an error in the matchup.
Connor Moore batted 2-4 with two RBI and scored one run, while Jeremy Wolf also went 2-4 with his team-leading 13th double of the season. Zach Oretsky and Drew Butler also were counted in the doubles column, and Jose Santos cracked his third triple of the season, tying for the Tiger lead.
Trent Rape (4-2) was the starting pitcher and achieved the victory. Rape pitched six innings in the shutout, allowed three hits, two walks, and struck out five batters. Zack Speer, Teddy Turner, and Nick Griffith were the relievers. As a whole, the Tiger staff permitted six hits and four walks, and fanned nine Schreiner players.
The Tigers travel to Abilene, Texas, Tuesday for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference game with McMurry University. Trinity will host Austin College in a three-game SCAC series next Saturday and Sunday. The Saturday doubleheader begins at 3:30 p.m., and Sunday's single game starts at 1:00 p.m. Trinity's seniors will be honored that day.
