Box Score 2 San Antonio - The 15th-ranked Tiger baseball team swept a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader from Austin College, winning 1-0 and 9-1 on Saturday evening.
Trinity improved to 27-11 overall this season, and 12-5 in conference play. Austin College was eliminated from conference tournament contention, dropping to 6-11 in SCAC and 8-20 overall.
The day opened with a pitcher's duel that began with five shutout innings. The Tigers got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of a two-out error by Austin.
Tiger pitchers Matt Tindall and Ryan Gray allowed just one hit in the victory, combining for 10 strikeouts. The only hit allowed by the duo came in the third inning against Tindall, who wound up with eight strikeouts and three walks allowed, improving to 4-1 on the season. Gray picked up his second save of the year with three hitless innings to close out the game.
Trinity's offense came to life quickly in game two, scoring seven runs over the first two innings to set the tone. Austin got its first run of the day in the sixth inning, stringing together a pair of hits with a walk and a hit batter.
The second game was also a jewel for pitchers Trent Rape and Nick Griffith. Rape moved to 5-2 on the year, allowing a run on seven hits over six innings of work, and striking out five batters. Griffith got a three-inning save by yielding just two hits, and recording three strikeouts to finish off the win.
Connor Moore was 3-4 with two runs scored in the finale, while Jeremy Wolf and Beau Attyah smacked two hits each. Wolf and Colin Serkowski drove in two runs each in the game, while Jose Santos and Austin Singer both hit solo homers for the Tigers.
Serkowski started the day with three hits in the opening game, while Moore was 2-4 with the game's only RBI. Carter McEachern was also 2-4 in game one, and he scored the only run after hitting a two-out double in the sixth.
Trinity and Austin will wrap up the regular season conference schedule tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. The Tiger seniors will also be honored prior to the game.
