Box Score San Antonio - The 18th-ranked Trinity baseball team wrapped up its regular-season home campaign with a dominating 17-3 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday night.
The Tigers improved to 29-11 on the season, and finished with an impressive 19-2 record on its home field. Mary Hardin-Baylor dropped to 18-18 after the loss, and will wrap up its regular season this weekend.
Trinity set the tone for the game by blasting ahead with a 10-1 lead after three innings. Austin Singer drove in two of the team's four runs in the first inning, then Beau Attyah widened the lead with his two-run double. The Crusaders hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth, but the Tigers finished off in style with five runs on four hits in the bottom half of the inning. Pepe Santos smashed a two-RBI double to left center field to pace the scoring burst.
Attyah batted 2-3 with three RBI, and Jeremy Wolf hit 2-3 with two RBI, while scoring four runs. Colin Serkowski also crossed the plate four times for the Tigers. Drew Butler went 2-3 with three RBI, while Carter McEachern popped two doubles and two RBI.
Mike Walker (5-3) pitched five innings for the win, allowing one earned run, two hits and striking out eight batters. Troy Nelson and Michael Maul finished off the game on the mound for Trinity, which allowed just six total hits. The Tiger offense collected a total of 16 hits in the game, including five extra-base hits.
The Tigers begin defense of their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Friday, facing off against Texas Lutheran University at 3:30 p.m. The four-team SCAC Tournament is being hosted by Centenary College, in Shreveport, Louisiana. The final is slated for Sunday, with the champion assured of a berth in the NCAA Division III Playoffs.
