Box Score Austin, Texas - Trinity's 13th-ranked baseball team had its three-game winning streak snapped with an 8-3 road loss at #15 Concordia (TX) University on Friday night.
The Tigers fell to 19-9 on the season, while the Tornados are now 21-6. The two teams split the regular season series, as Trinity won an 11-3 game in San Antonio earlier this week. Seven different Tiger players picked up a total of eight hits in the game.
Concordia took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning, then following a Tiger run in the top of the sixth, the Tornados broke loose for three more scores to pull away. Trinity scored twice in the ninth, but it wasn't enough after Concordia had added three insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings.
Liam Rihela was the lone Trinity player with more than one hit in tonight's game, going 2-4 with one RBI. Andrew Waters and Drew Butler were both 1-3 with one RBI as well.
Zack Speer fell to 5-2 on the season after allowing five runs on nine hits over five innings pitched. Though Matt Tindall gave up two runs on one hit in relief, both runs charged to him were unearned in his 1.2 innings of work. Trent Rape finished off the final 1.1 innings, and the three Trinity pitchers combined for a total of eight strikeouts.
Trinity will resume Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play next weekend, traveling to Irving, Texas, to take on the University of Dallas in a three-game series. The teams play a doubleheader on Saturday at noon, then wrap up with a Sunday afternoon game at 1:00 p.m.
