Box Score San Antonio - The 18th-ranked Trinity volleyball team beat NCAA Division II member St. Mary's (TX) University 3-1 on Tuesday night.
MATCH SUMMARY
The Tigers won the match 25-17, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18.
With the score tied at 16-16 in the first set, Trinity won nine of the next 10 points to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Trinity held a slim 19-18 lead in the tightly-played second set, but then took the next five points to lead 24-18. Despite the Rattlers capturing some momentum with four points in a row, the Tigers were able to close out the match and take a 2-0 advantage.
The third set was tied at 17-17, when St. Mary's rattled off four consecutive points to pull ahead. Trinity won the next two, but the Rattlers kept the match alive by winning four of the final five points.
The Tigers surged ahead late in the fourth set to take a 21-15 lead, setting up the overall victory over their fellow San Antonio team.
NOTABLES
Trinity won its fifth consecutive match, and improved to 18-5 on the season. St. Mary's dropped to 10-10 after the loss.
Kirby Smith posted her 10th double-double of the campaign with a match-high 14 kills to go with 12 digs.
Erika Edrington also recorded a double-double with a match-best 39 assists and 14 digs, as well as five blocked shots. Tonight also marked her 11th double-double of the season.
Sarah Mullens was the leader in digs, while Maggie Linker matched Edrington with five blocks on the night.
