Box Score Shreveport, Louisiana - The 16th-ranked Tiger volleyball team defeated Austin (TX) College 3-0 in the semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Friday afternoon.
MATCH SUMMARY
Trinity beat Austin College 25-20, 25-19, 25-17 in its first match of the two-day conference tournament event.
The Tigers started with a 10-4 run in the opening set, and never trailed again in the match. The Kangaroos closed to within two points (20-22) late in the match, but Trinity finished with three consecutive points for the win.
In the second set, neither team led by more than three points until the end, when the Tigers broke a 17-17 tie by scoring eight of the final 10 points to take a 2-0 match lead.
Trinity took a 5-1 lead to start the third, then after Austin tied the match 10-10 (and again 11-11 shortly after), the Tigers outscored the 'Roos 9-3 to take a 20-14 advantage. Austin scored three of the next four, but Trinity finished the match with four straight points.
NOTABLES
The top-seeded Tigers improved their record to 26-7 with the win over #4 seed Austin. Trinity is 5-0 against Austin in SCAC Tournament play.
Trinity will make its sixth consecutive appearance in the championship match, having gone 2-3 over the previous five conference finals. The Tigers won in 2013 and 2014.
Erika Edrington produced 42 assists, a season-high mark for a three-set match,
Kirby Smith registered a double-double of 13 kills and 17 digs. Sarah Mullens and Brooke Bastien each had 17 digs, and Amelia Roden added 14.
Madeline McKay led the match-up with 15 kills, while Rebecca Hayes posted a match-high six blocks, to go with her 13 kills.
UP NEXT
The Tigers will play second-seeded Southwestern (TX) University for the SCAC Championship at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. It will be a rematch of last year's title match, which was a 3-1 win by Southwestern.
