#7 Baseball Suffers Road Loss at Mary Hardin-Baylor

Box Score

Belton, Texas - The seventh-ranked Trinity baseball team dropped a 7-4 decision to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at Red Murff Field on Tuesday night.

The Tigers had a two-game winning streak snapped, and now stand at 2-2 on the season. The Cru improved to 2-5 with the win. Trinity and Mary Hardin-Baylor will meet again April 12 as the Tigers close out their regular-season home schedule.

Trinity had taken an early 4-0 lead in the first two innings. The three-run opening stanza was highlighted by a solo home run by Connor Moore to right field. The Tigers scored a run in the second off the bat of Colin Serkowski. Then, the Cru started to chip away at the Tigers lead by scoring a run in the fourth inning, and two runs in the sixth. The eighth inning belonged to Mary Hardin-Baylor, with a four-run performance. A bases-clearing double down the left-field line scored three of the runs.

Right-hander Troy Nelson started the game for the Tigers, and pitched for 6.1 innings. Nelson yielded two earned runs and eight hits, while striking out five Crusaders. Ryan Gray was the reliever for two-thirds of an inning. Gray (0-2) gave up four earned runs and was charged with the loss. Teddy Turner and Andrew Hoffman finished out the matchup.

"We mismanaged the game," admitted Head Coach Tim Scannell. "We had them on the ropes, and we let them off the hook. We play Texas-Dallas on Friday, and they are a really good team. We have a tough road ahead, but we will just get after it on Friday."

Moore batted 2-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Serkowski also drew two walks, and scored a run, in addition to his RBI. Carter McEachern and Austin Singer each drove in a run.

Trinity begins its home campaign Friday by hosting the University of Texas-Dallas at 7:00 p.m. A doubleheader is on the slate for Saturday, with a 1:00 p.m. starting time.
