#4 Baseball Defeats Mary Hardin-Baylor in Regular Season Home Finale

Box Score

San Antonio - The fourth-ranked Trinity baseball team finished off its regular season home schedule by defeating the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 10-5 Tuesday night.

The game was called just before the start of the bottom half of the seventh inning due to lightning.  The Tigers improved their season record to 29-7, and the Crusaders dropped to 11-21 on the year. The teams did split the season series, as UMHB defeated Trinity 7-4 earlier this season in Belton, Texas.

After Trinity jumped ahead with a three-run first inning, Mary Hardin-Baylor got on the board with a solo homer in the second.  The Tigers scored three more times in the bottom of the second, folloewd by another run in the third to pull ahead 7-1.  The Crusaders rallied for four runs in the fifth, taking advantage of a Trinity error to bring in three unearned runs.  Trinity's offense once again answered in the home half, plating three more runs to finish off the scoring.

Mike Walker notched his second straight complete-game victory, improving to 6-0 on the season.  He struck out six batters, giving up two earned runs on five hits.

"I have said it many times, this game runs through pitching," said Head Coach Tim Scannell. "Mike Walker stepped up with another outstanding performance. He was great at McMurry last week, and we thought he was even better tonight. A couple of defensive miscues put him in a bad position, but he battled through it. Offensively, I thought we did a really good job of hitting line drives, and staying out of the air. That was the difference today."

Andrew Waters was 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI to lead a stout Tiger offense.  Jeremy Wolf also picked up two hits and three RBI, while Colin Serkowski was 2-3 with two runs scored.  Trinity hitters finished with eight extra-base hits among 12 total hits in the game.

The Tigers return to action Tuesday, April 19, for a game with NAIA member Our Lady of the Lake University, based in San Antonio. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Trinity edged OLLU 3-2 in early March in a home game.
