Box Score Sherman, Texas - Trinity's sixth-ranked baseball team finished off regular season play with a 13-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Austin College on Saturday, tying for the league's regular season championship.
The Tigers finish the season with a 14-4 conference record, and ended up tied with Texas Lutheran for the top mark in the regular season in SCAC play. Trinity is 32-7 overall this season, while Austin falls to 13-25 overall, and 2-16 in the SCAC.
"Great pitching, once again, from our starters," said Head Coach Tim Scannell. "Mike Walker was sharp, with great command of three pitches. There were very good relief outings from Flores, Hussian, and Tate. I was very pleased with the offensive focus all weekend, and it was great to see freshman Logan Morrison crush his first home run. He is going to be an outstanding player."
Four Trinity pitchers combined for the three-hit shutout, led by starter Michael Walker. Walker improved to 7-0 on the year, allowing three hits in 4.0 innings, and striking out five batters. Kevin Flores, Ian Hussian, and Chris Tate each pitched an inning of no-hit ball to finish the game.
Trinity's offense pushed across a run in each of the seven innings this afternoon, beginning with a four-run first. After a bases-loaded walk to start the scoring, Jose Santos doubled home a pair of runs to highlight the inning. After a single run in the second, the Tigers scored twice in both the third and fourth to make it a 9-0 lead. Solo runs in the fifth and sixth pushed the lead to double digits, and Logan Morrison's two-run homer in the seventh ended the scoring.
Colin Serkowski and Andrew Waters finished with three hits and two runs each, with Waters cracking a pair of doubles. Santos was 2-2 with two runs and his two RBI, while Carter McEachern was 2-4 with two RBI, and a home run. Brody Fehmel also drove in a pair of runs in the game.
Trinity will next compete at the SCAC Championship Tournament April 29-May 1, hosted by Texas Lutheran University. TLU is the top seed, by virtue of holding the tiebreaker against Trinity, after winning two of three SCAC games between the teams this season. More details about the tournament will be released next week.
