Box Score Seguin, Texas - The third-ranked Trinity baseball team advanced to the championship game of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament with a 5-2 victory over host Texas Lutheran University on Saturday afternoon.
Second-seeded Trinity (34-7) will go for its fourth consecutive championship Sunday at 3:30 p.m. The Tigers will meet the winner of Sunday's noon elimination game, involving top seed Texas Lutheran (26-14), and the winner of Saturday's Southwestern University/Centenary College matchup.
The Tigers opened the scoring in the fourth inning as Nick Jewett plastered a home run to left field, marking his fourth round-tripper of the campaign. TLU perked up and took the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the stanza, but Trinity answered with a huge four-run fifth inning that highlighted by a two-run single from Brody Fehmel.
Jewett went 3-5 in the batter's box. Jeremy Wolf, Colin Serkowski, and Drew Butler each chalked up two hits in the game. Michael Walker was the man on the mound for Trinity, scoring his third complete game of the season. Walker maintained a flawless record with an 8-0 mark, allowing just two hits and one walk over the final five innings.
"This game was all about Mike Walker," said Head Coach Tim Scannell. "We needed a tough-minded outing, and he brought a bulldog mentality that challenged TLU every step of the way. He was immense. Walker established the outer half of the plate, and was able to pitch with rhythm and tempo, which allowed our defense to settle in and make some plays. We did a really nice job defensively. Offensively, Jewett was the story. He had a huge home run that got us started. The big hit in the ballgame was Brody Fehmel, with a two-RBI hit up the middle in the fifth inning."
