Box Score Abilene, Texas - The top-ranked Trinity baseball team opened its two-game Tuesday road trip with a 7-0 shutout victory of McMurry University.
The Tigers improved to 26-5, and will play Hardin-Simmons University later this evening. The War Hawks dropped to 13-15 after the loss.
Mike Walker tossed a six-hit shutout to improve his record to 5-0 this season. Walker did not issue a walk, striking out four batters, and threw the first solo shutout of the season for the Tiger pitching staff. It also marked just the second complete game of the year for a Trinity pitcher.
Trinity struck first on Jake Martin's RBI single in the second inning. Carter MacEachern made it 2-0 in the fourth, and then the Tigers added two more runs in the sixth. Jeremy Wolf drove home a run with a double in the seventh, and Colin Serkowski belted a homer in the eighth to complete the scoring. The two-run shot was the first home run in Serkowski's career.
"Mike Walker stepped up and pitched a complete game shutout," said Coach Tim Scannell. "He had great command of all three pitches: changeup, curve, and fastball. Connor Moore was also really stellar at shortstop."
Wolf and Nick Jewett both went 3-5 with a double. Jewett crossed the plate twice, while Wolf had one run and his seventh-inning RBI. The Tigers finished the game with 10 total hits, and did not commit an error.
