Kalamazoo, Michigan - Trinity senior All-American Paxton Deuel was eliminated from the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Singles Championship at Kalamazoo College on Thursday afternoon.
The sixth-seeded Deuel lost in the second round 6-2, 6-2 to Abhishek Alla of Carnegie Mellon (PA) University. Deuel began the 32-draw event by defeating Jake Humphreys of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 6-3, 7-6 (5) in the first round. It marked the second NCAA postseason singles event for Deuel, who also competed in the 2014 tournament.
Deuel received the West Region Intercollegiate Tennis Association/Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship Award on Wednesday. During Trinity's dual-match campaign, Deuel completed the season with a 15-5 record, largely at #1 singles.
Last fall, Deuel won the USTA/ITA Southwest Region Singles Championship for the second time, and advanced to the National Small College Championships. He also won the regional title in 2013, and finished fifth at the national event. In April, Deuel paced the Tigers to a seventh consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, and was elected the SCAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year. He also held the accolade in 2014.
