Box Score San Antonio - The Trinity volleyball team opened the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Divisional Tournament with a 3-1 loss to seventh-ranked Southwestern University on Friday evening.

MATCH SUMMARY
The Tigers lost the opening set 25-12, as Southwestern finished on a 14-2 run that started after Trinity had closed to within one point (10-11).
In the second set, it was Trinity's turn to win a lopsided set. The Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the strength of four service aces from Madeline McKay. Later in the set, a 6-0 spurt made it a 19-7 Trinity lead, and the Tigers tied the match with a 25-11 victory.
Southwestern broke a 15-15 tie in the third set with three consecutive points, and after Trinity battled back to 18-17, the Pirates scored four of the next five on their way to a 25-23 win.
Another fast start was the story of the fourth set, but this time it was Southwestern that jumped ahead early with a 10-2 advantage. Trinity rallied to tie the match 15-15, and again at 17-17, but Southwestern scored six unanswered to regain control, and win 25-23 to clinch the match.
NOTABLES
Trinity now stands at 6-3 and 0-1 SCAC. Defending conference champion Southwestern improved to 10-0 and 1-0 in conference play.
Erika Edrington posted a double-double of 32 assists and 12 digs.
Kirby Smith also had a double-double, with 11 kills and 14 digs, as well as a .310 hitting percentage.
Maggie Linker hit .385, and also led the match with four blocks.
Madeline McKay finished with a match-leading five service aces to go with eight kills.
Sarah Mullens recorded 13 digs for the home team.
Southwestern won last year's SCAC Championship with a 3-1 win over Trinity in Georgetown, Texas. The Tigers captured the 2013 and 2014 conference titles with victories over Southwestern.
