#7 Tiger Baseball Splits Saturday Games With Maryville and Belhaven

Jackson, Mississippi - The seventh-ranked Trinity baseball team split its Saturday games, defeating Maryville (TN) College 4-2, and then losing 10-6 to Belhaven (MS) University.

 

GAME SUMMARIES

Trinity got on the board against Maryville with a run in the bottom of the third inning, but the Scots tied it up in the fourth. Trinity put up a pair of runs over the next two innings to lead 3-1. Maryville added a run in the sixth, which would prove to be the final scoring play for the Scots.

The Tigers held Maryville scoreless over the final three innings, and allowed only one hit in the process. Trinity produced an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth for the last run of the ball game.

In the second game of the day, Trinity took a 3-0 lead in the first three innings against Belhaven, but the Blazers put together a bix six-run third to lead 6-3. Both teams added runs in the fourth, but a three-run Belhaven homer in the fifth widened the lead to 10-4.

The Tigers picked up a two-run single in the seventh to start a rally, but it would be Trinity's last score of the Saturday twinbill.

 

NOTABLES

The Tigers now stand at 2-2 after a busy first two days of the regular season campaign.

Rafe Chaumette was hot at the plate against Maryville, going 3-3, with a double and a triple. Chaumette, Zachary Oretsky and Blake Frampton each drove in runs in the game.

Kevin Flores picked up the victory for the Tigers in the opener, yielding one earned run on four hits over 5.1 innings, while fanning five Maryville players, and issuing just one walk.

Chris Tate picked up the save, striking out three batters over the two scoreless innings without allowing a hit.

Joey Pecoraro batted 2-3 against Belhaven, and Michael Davis drove in two Tiger runs. Frampton scored a pair of runs for Trinity against the Blazers.

Brandon Hance (0-1) took the loss, after pitching for 2.1 innings. Hance fanned four batters, and allowed two earned runs and five hits, along with two walks.

Troy Nelson finished off the final four innings on the mound for Trinity, giving up one run on one hit, and striking out five batters.

 

UP NEXT

The Tigers conclude their Mississippi trip by taking on Berry (GA) College on Sunday at noon. The game will be played at Millsaps College.
