Box Score Alpine, Texas - The Trinity baseball team was edged 12-11 in an 11-inning game against Sul Ross State (TX) University on Saturday afternoon.
GAME SUMMARY
Sul Ross scored a run with one out in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings for the second straight game against the Tigers.
Trinity scored on a sacrifice fly in the 10th, but the Lobos scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded in the 10th to extend the contest.
In the 11th, the Tigers knocked in another run by way of a sacrifice fly, which led to another comeback by Sul Ross. This time, the Lobos knocked a bases-loaded single with two outs to earn the victory.
Trinity started the scoring with a run in the second, then added four more runs in the third and fourth to take a 5-0 lead. The Sul Ross offense came to life with four runs in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the lead to just one run.
A three-run fifth and another run in the sixth pushed the Tiger lead to 9-4, but Sul Ross answered with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth, setting up the dramatic late-inning finish.
Trinity scored 10 runs on 15 hits in the slugfest, while Sul Ross used 16 hits to plate 11 runs.
NOTABLES
The Tigers had their three-game winning streak snapped, and now stand at 5-5 this season. Sul Ross is sporting a 7-7 record.
Jake Martin led Trinity's offense with a 4-5 performance at the plate, adding two stolen bases to go with one RBI and one run scored.
Michael Goodrich hit 3-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Scott Walters was 2-4 with two runs scored.
Logan Morrison had two hits in the game, adding two runs and two RBI as well. Blake Frampton added two RBI and scored once.
James Nittoli pitched four innings to start the game for Trinity, allowing three runs on four hits, and striking out four batters. Dylan McGee (0-1) was charged with the loss, pitching the final 1.1 innings of the game.
