Trinity Baseball Beats Southwestern in SCAC Opener

Box Score

Georgetown, Texas - Trinity baseball team opened its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference campaign with a 3-1 victory over Southwestern University Friday night.

GAME SUMMARY

The night started off slow as both teams struggled to get anything going in the first two innings. Tiger catcher, Parker Cormack, got things going in the top of the third with a double to center field, but the team was unable to bring him home. Trinity's defense remained stout in the bottom of the third inning to keep the Pirates off the board.

The Tigers kept the momentum going in the top of the fourth with Ethan Cole Pilar leading off with a single. The next three batters were able to make contact with the ball, but unfortunately they didn't have enough behind thema as they were all caught cleanly in the outfield. Defensively, senior Dylan McGee continued to pitch a great game as he earned his third strike out of the game and pitched for 4 innings without a hit.

The fifth inning proved to be a huge success for the Trinity as Cormack earned his second hit of the day to get on first. Dalys Binder then hit a two-run homer over the left field wall to put the Tigers up 2-0. In the top of the sixth, Pilar was able to make it home off a single out to center field by Jake Martin. Southwestern's only score of the game came in the following half inning on a ground out to shortstop to put the game at 3-1. Trinity was able to hold the Pirates to only one hit the rest of the game.

NOTABLES

The Tigers won their third straight game and upped their record to 9-7 and 1-0 SCAC.

Dalys Binder smacked a two-run homer in the fifth inning, while going 2-3 at the plate. Ethan Cole Pilar posted a pair of hits and scored a run for the Tigers.

Parker Cormack hit a double, registered two hits, and scored a run in the process. Jake Martin also drove in a run.

Dylan McGee hurled for 6.1 innings and picked up the victory. McGee (1-1) struck out seven batters, did not allow an earned run, and permitted only two hits and one walk. Chris Tate pitched the final 2.2 innings and recorded his second save of the season. Tate yielded two walks, and was "zero" in the hit and runs categories. He also fanned four of the Pirates batters.
