#5 Trinity Baseball Blanks Mary Hardin-Baylor

Box Score

San Antonio – The fifth-ranked Tiger baseball team earned its second consecutive shutout with a 9-0 win over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday.

GAME SUMMARY

Trinity took advantage of a leadoff walk and two stolen bases by Logan Morrison to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.

In the second, the Tigers hammered out four hits and sent 10 hitters to the plate to score four runs and take a 5-0 lead.

That would be more than enough for Tiger pitchers Holden Nix and Ian Hussian, who extended Trinity's streak to 20 innings without allowing a run. The Trinity duo allowed just one base runner over the final four innings to preserve the shutout.

The Mary Hardin-Baylor bullpen was able to slow Trinity down in the middle innings, but the Tigers picked up four straight hits with two outs to score three runs in the sixth to push that lead to 8-0. Trinity added an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to finish off the scoring.

HIGHLIGHTS

Trinity pushed its record to 11-1 on the year with its fifth consecutive victory, while Mary Hardin-Baylor fell to 5-10 overall.

Holden Nix (1-0) struck out five batters over seven shutout innings, allowing just two hits and a walk. Ian Hussian finished off the last two innings of the shutout without allowing a hit.

Logan Morrison went 2-4 and scored three times, while Parker Cormack had a double and two runs scored. Morrison also swiped two steals in the first inning to set up Trinity's first run of the game.

Jake Martin was 2-4 with a double and two RBI, while Blake Frampton was 2-3 with a run scored.

Rafe Chaumette, Michael Davis, and Zach Oretsky drove in two runs each for the Tigers.
