Top-Ranked Tigers Sweep SCAC Saturday Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Kerrville, Texas – The #1 Trinity baseball team opened up a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with a doubleheader sweep at Schreiner (TX) University on Saturday afternoon.

GAME SUMMARIES

Trinity rallied from a first-inning deficit in both games, winning 8-4 and 13-6 in the road doubleheader.

Schreiner scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning of game one, as well as holding the Tigers scoreless over the first three innings.

Trinity got on the board with a run in the fourth, but it wasn't until the seventh inning that the Tigers were able to get back into the game.

The seventh inning started with the first of two home runs by Michael Goodrich, then John Tucker drove in the go-ahead score with a sacrifice fly to center field.

A leadoff walk and another Goodrich round-tripper added two more Tiger runs in the eighth, and the visitors began to pull away with a 7-4 lead. Rafe Chaumette's solo homer in the ninth finished off the scoring.

After allowing five hits in the first inning, Trinity pitching gave up just two hits over the remainder of the game.

The Tigers jumped in front with a run in the top of the first inning of game two, but Schreiner answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Trinity pulled back in front in the third inning, scoring four runs on five hits – including three consecutive extra-base hits.

The Tigers made it a 7-3 advantage with two more runs in the fourth, picking up two more extra-base hits.

Schreiner rallied with three scores in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to just one (7-6), but an inning-ending double play kept the Tigers in the lead.

Trinity scored at least once in each of the final four innings, capped by a three-run ninth that put the game out of reach.
