#1 Trinity Suffers Second Straight Loss on Monday Night

Georgetown, Texas – The #1 Trinity Tigers was edged 8-7 in a non-conference game at Southwestern (TX) University on Monday night.

 

GAME SUMMARY

Despite out-hitting Southwestern 17-8, Trinity was able to muster just seven runs and left a total of 17 runners on base in the game.

The Tigers started the scoring with two runs on three hits in the second inning, but Southwestern answered immediately with a three-run home run to take a 3-2 lead early in the game.

The Pirates added another run in the third to take a two-run advantage, but Trinity tied the game at 4-4 with a three-hit fifth inning.

Southwestern pulled back in front immediately, scoring three runs over the next two innings to take a 7-4 lead after six complete.

Trinity refused to go quietly, though, hammering out five hits in the top of the seventh to score three runs and tie the game 7-7.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Tigers turned a double play to erase a leadoff walk issued to Southwestern, but the Pirates drew another walk to keep the inning alive. 

That walk was followed by a run-scoring double that put Southwestern in front once again at 8-7, and Trinity was retired in order in the ninth to end the game.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

Tonight marks the first time this season that the Tigers have lost consecutive games, falling to 28-4 overall. Southwestern improved to 14-18.

Trinity is 4-1 against Southwestern, though the teams have split the two non-conference meetings this year.

Logan Morrison led a Tiger offense that pounded out 17 total hits, going 5-5 with one RBI and one run scored.

Jack Wisniewski and Blake Frampton both went 3-6 in the game, while Parker Cormack was 3-4 with two runs scored. Wisniewski also drove in two runs, while Frampton had two doubles among his three hits.

John Tucker finished with two hits and scored a run, while Rafe Chaumette, Michael Goodrich, and Colter Nisbet drew two walks each.

 

UP NEXT

Trinity will return home for a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with the University of Dallas (TX) this weekend. The series begins with a Saturday doubleheader, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
