Box Score 2 San Antonio – Trinity's top-ranked baseball team swept a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against the University of Dallas (TX) on Saturday.
GAME SUMMARY
Trinity broke a 3-3 tie with a walkoff infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning to squeeze out a 4-3 win in game one, then coasted to a 9-5 win in the second half of the doubleheader.
The Tigers had two hits to start the bottom of the ninth, then Dallas loaded the bases with an intentional walk with no outs.
Jake Martin scorched a line drive to short, but a drawn-in infield was able to knock it down and cut down the winning run at the plate to keep the game tied.
Jack Wisniewski then hit a sharp ground ball to the left side of the infield with one out, which was snagged on a diving stop by the Dallas shortstop, but the Crusaders were unable to make a play to keep the Tigers from scoring the game-winner.
Dallas actually struck first with an unearned run in the top of the first inning to take the early lead, though Trinity was able to tie the game with a run of its own in the second.
The Crusaders immediately went back in front with another run in the third, and the Tigers trailed until the bottom of the fifth.
Blake Frampton tied the game with his sacrifice fly, then Logan Morrison put Trinity in front with a single to center. Dallas tied the game in the seventh to set up Trinity's ninth-inning dramatics.
Game two began with Dallas scoring again to take the early advantage, but this time Trinity answered with seven runs on four hits – highlighted by John Tucker's three-RBI double and Joey Pecoraro's two-run homer.
The Tigers added another run in the second, followed by Dallas picking up two runs in the fourth to make it an 8-3 Trinity lead.
Trinity scored its final run in the bottom of the fourth and while Dallas added runs in the sixth and eighth innings, the early Tiger lead was too much to overcome.
