Third-Ranked Tigers Edged by #18 Babson on Saturday

Box Score

San Antonio - The third-ranked Trinity baseball team was beaten 6-5 by #18 Babson (MA) College on Saturday night.

GAME SUMMARY

Babson got the scoring started early with a run on two hits in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Tigers needed just four pitches to produce their answer and tie the game on Jake Martin's RBI double. Trinity got another run to pull in front, but a double play on a strikeout and steal attempt ended the threat.

Both pitchers settled in and allowed just one baserunner over the next two innings. The Beavers took advantage of two hits and an error in the fourth to pull in front with a 3-2 lead over the Tigers, then added single runs in the fifth and the seventh to make it a 5-2 advantage.

Babson continued its strong pitching performance through the sixth inning, retiring 16 of 18 batters faced from the end of the second until the bottom of the seventh.

In that seventh, Trinity's bats came to life with three runs on three hits to tie the game. The Tigers also took advantage of an error by the visitors that kept the inning alive. Martin tied the game with another RBI double, driving in two runs to make it 5-5 with just two innings left.

After a one-out walk and a wild pitch in the top of the eighth, Babson reclaimed the lead with a single to deep right field to plate the eventual game-winning run.

Trinity put the tying run on base with one out in the eighth, but the runner was stranded at second. The Tigers began the ninth with Brannen Caraway's leadoff single that put the tying run aboard once again, but Trinity stranded a pair of runners on base to end the game.
