#6 Baseball Defeats Schreiner on Senior Day

San Antonio – Trinity's sixth-ranked baseball team finished off a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend sweep with a 14-2 win over Schreiner (TX) University on Saturday afternoon.

 

GAME SUMMARY

The Tiger offense blasted four doubles and three home runs on their way to 12 total hits and a run-rule victory to close out the series.

Dalys Binder got the scoring started with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first to put Trinity in front for good.

Jack Wisniewski and Jake Martin both hit doubles in the second inning to bring in another run for a 4-0 lead.

Mason Meredith led off the third with a solo home run off the scoreboard in left-center, then Michael Goodrich doubled and later scored on an error to make it a 6-0 game.

Brannen Caraway fueled a five-run fifth inning with his grand slam to right field and the Tigers took an 11-0 lead.

Trinity committed three errors in the sixth inning that led to Schreiner scoring a run to break up the shutout, but the Tigers answered right away with three more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Caraway drove in two more runs with a double, while Tucker brought in the final run of the game for Trinity with a single to left.

Schreiner scratched across another unearned run in the ninth, but the Tigers finished off the game with a strikeout.

 

NOTABLES

Trinity reaches the 30-win plateau with its sixth consecutive victory, improving to 30-9 overall and 14-4 in SCAC play.

Prior to the game, the Tigers honored their nine seniors: Dalys Binder, Brannen Caraway, Ian Hussian, Jeff Lonnecker, Ryan Manz, Jake Martin, Logan Morrison, Holden Nix, and John Tucker.

Corey Cater (7-2) allowed just one unearned run on three hits over 6.0 innings on the mound, striking out seven batters without issuing a walk. Cater leads the team with seven wins, an ERA of 2.17, and 65 strikeouts.

Caraway had a double and a grand slam, driving in six of Trinity's 12 runs in the game for a career-best in RBI. The home run was the first of his career with the Tigers.

Martin finished with three hits, including his team-leading 15th double of the season.

Binder's only hit was his fourth home run of the season, as he also tallied three RBI and two runs scored.

Tucker went 2-4 on the day, scoring a run and driving in another.

Hussian and Nix combined to pitch the final inning of the game.

Mason Meredith had two hits and scored three runs, while Michael Goodrich also scored three runs in the game.
