San Antonio - The Tiger men's and women's teams maintained their leads Friday at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Swimming & Diving Championships at Josh Davis Natatorium.
HIGHLIGHTS
The defending champion Trinity women's team has racked up 712 points after the third of four days of competition, leading Southwestern (TX) University by 172 points.
Trinity's men have amassed 646 points and lead Southwestern by 65.5 points. Seven men's and women's teams are competing in the championships.
Trinity went 1-2 in the women's 3-meter diving event, with Maren Merwarth winning the title for the second year in a row. Merwarth, the 2019 SCAC Women's Diver of the Year, scored 473.60 after 11 dives for a conference championship personal-best mark. A Tiger diver has now won the women's high board for 15 years in a row.
Katarina Partalas earned All-SCAC honors with a second-place mark of 450.25.
Anthony Liva took top honors in the men's 1-meter competition, posting a score of 478.80, while Nolan Anthony was third at 278.40 to secure All-SCAC honors as well. This year's meet marks the fifth consecutive time a Tiger men's diver won the low board.
In Friday's swimming events, Mabel Fowler won the women's 200-yard freestyle for the third straight year, clocking in at 1:51.86, setting a new SCAC record and picking up an NCAA Division III provisional time. A Trinity swimmer has won the 200 freestyle eight years in a row.
Meghan Magill placed second at 1:52.13 and also earned a provisional mark, while Caroline Westholder finished third in the race.
Star Rosales emerged as the champion of the 100-yard backstroke with a school-record time of 57.72 seconds.
The 400 medley relay title went to Fowler, Caroline North, Morgen Reyna, and Rosales who touched the pad in 3:55.90 to take a spot in the top three in Trinity's record book.
Kari Petersen placed second in the 400 individual medley for All-SCAC honors.
The Tiger men went 1-2-3 in the 200 freestyle, with Grayden Nelson taking the top spot at 1:40:53, just a half-second off the school record. Beau Tipton was runner-up by .03 seconds, and Daniel Sarman followed in the third slot.
Matteo Lanzara took the 100 backstroke in 51.20 seconds, and Eamon Morris placed second at 52.31.
Trinity won the 400 medley relay in 3:24.72, with Lanzara, Elliott Fleming, Tipton, and Shamzi Alkaff doing the honors.
Ben Adams was runner-up in the 100 butterfly by 0.29 seconds, and Spencer Steward placed third in the 100 breaststroke.
Emily Bartylla won the "B" title, or ninth place, of the women's 100 breaststroke, as did Leon Faulk in the men's 100 backstroke.
Lara Case, Jadyn Trahan, Westholder, and Elizabeth Nelson were the "B" champs of the women's 400 medley relay.

The final day of the Championships starts Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with swimming preliminaries. Men's 3-meter diving and the women's 1-meter event will be held at approximately 1:15 p.m. The conference seniors will be honored at 5:45 p.m., and swimming finals start at 6:00 p.m.
