Box Score Colorado Springs, Colorado – Trinity's 13th-ranked women's basketball team fought off an upset bid to defeat Colorado College 60-56 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday night.
GAME SUMMARY
Trinity trailed by seven points in the third quarter, but rallied to take the lead early in the fourth. The teams went back and forth for much of the final period, but Trinity still led most of the way.
Colorado College tied the game at 56-56 with 37 seconds left, but Sam Henry's layup on the ensuing Trinity possession put the visitors back on top just 10 seconds later.
After Colorado College missed a shot with 14 ticks on the clock, Trinity ended up at the free throw line in the final seconds. Emily Daniel sealed the win with a pair of free throws to vault Trinity to the win.
Colorado College opened the game with a 10-2 lead, but Trinity scrambled back for a short-lived 16-15 lead in the final minute of the first quarter. Colorado College hit the final shot, though, and led 17-16 after one.
Both teams traded the lead for much of the second quarter, but Colorado College scored six of the final eight points to take a 33-30 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
Colorado College continued their run with four straight points to start the third quarter and still led by seven with less than four minutes left in the period. Trinity scored the final four points of the quarter and trailed just 43-46 heading into the fourth.
This time it was Trinity that carried the momentum into the next quarter, taking a 52-46 lead with only 5:27 left in the game. Colorado College rallied with six straight points to tie it and the teams went back and forth from there to set up the dramatic finish.
HIGHLIGHTS
Trinity improves to 20-3 overall with its fifth straight win, including a 15-1 mark in SCAC play. Colorado College falls to 14-9 overall and 10-6 in conference.
The win gives Trinity another 20-win season under Head Coach Cameron Hill, who has led the Tigers to 20 or more wins in each of his eight seasons with the team. Trinity only had six 20-win seasons in its history prior to his arrival.
Abby Holland finished with her second straight double-double after collecting 14 points and 11 rebounds in tonight's game. She was the only Tiger player to reach double figures.
Sam Henry and Ashlyn Milton both came off the bench with nine points, which tied a career-high for Henry.
Emily Daniel tied her career-high with nine rebounds, adding a team-best five assists and eight points scored in the game.
Hailey Coleman came off the bench with six points and six boards in just 17 minutes, while Julia Ackerman and Kelly Simmons also had six points for Trinity.
Jordan Rudd led the team with five steals, while Holland and Ackerman picked up three steals each.
