#3 Trinity Baseball Slides Past LeTourneau

San Antonio – The third-ranked Tiger baseball team began the first half of a Saturday doubleheader with a 12-7 win over LeTourneau (TX) University.

 

GAME SUMMARY

Trinity was out-hit 11-10 by LeTourneau, but the Tigers had six extra-base hits and left just four runners on base in the game.

The Tigers got the scoring started quickly as Michael Goodrich hit a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. LeTourneau was not fazed, stringing together three runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning to take the 3-2 advantage.

After Trinity went quietly in the second, LeTourneau added to its lead with two more runs to make it a 5-2 game after just two innings.

The Tigers had a pair of triples and another homer among six total hits in the fourth inning, which resulted in seven runs that made it a 9-5 Trinity lead.

Trinity added another run on Jack Vonderhaar's solo shot in the fifth and an unearned run in the sixth to pull ahead by six runs. LeTourneau picked up single runs in the sixth and seventh to make it an 11-7 game, but Michael Herrera padded the Tiger lead with his second homer of the game in the eighth for the final score of the game.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

Trinity improves to 2-0 with the win, while LeTourneau evens its record to 2-2.

Michael Herrera was 2-5 with two home runs and three RBI, as well as scoring a pair of runs.

Michael Goodrich also drove in three runs and scored two more, finishing 2-4 with a home run of his own.

Mason Meredith joined his teammates with a two-hit game, going 2-3 with a triple and two runs scored.

Rafe Chaumette made the most of his only hit of the night, driving in a pair of runs with a triple. Chaumette also scored two runs.

Branden Hance (1-0) came on in relief in the second inning, earning the win after allowing just two runs on six hits over 5.0 innings of work. Hance struck out four batters without issuing a walk.

Matthew Thomas got his second save of the year, pitching 2.1 shutout innings to close out the game, and allowing just one hit to the eight batters he faced.
