San Antonio - Tiger swimmers Daniel Sarman and Caroline North secured the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Elite 19 awards, announced at the SCAC Championship meet on Saturday at Josh Davis Natatorium.
The SCAC Elite 19 award recognizes academic achievement and athletic prowess in each conference sport. The student-athletes who receive the kudos must have at least a 3.25 GPA and received All-SCAC recognition in their respective sports.
Sarman, who hails from Austin, Texas, plans to major in finance at Trinity. He has amassed a 3.896 GPA and has been a member of Trinity's Dean's List and the SCAC Academic Honor Roll.
During the course of the SCAC Championships, Sarman became a two-time winner of the men's 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:50.84. He was also part of the champion 800 freestyle relay team which posted a mark of 6:48.46. The performance is currently ranked 17th in the NCAA Division III.
North is an accounting and finance major with a 3.875 GPA. The Dallas, Texas, resident also has qualified for Trinity's Dean's List and the SCAC Academic Honor Roll. North was a member of the champion 400 medley relay team which chalked up a time of 3:55.90, one of the top-three marks in Trinity history.
Both Sarman and North contributed to the Tiger teams' winning the SCAC Championship trophies. Trinity's women won their 17th consecutive SCAC Championship and the 20th overall. The Tiger men regained the title for their eighth occasion in nine years.
