#4 Tiger Baseball Downs DeSales on Wednesday

Box Score

San Antonio – The fourth-ranked Tiger baseball team earned an 11-5 win over DeSales (PA) University on Wednesday night.

GAME SUMMARY

DeSales started the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning, but Trinity quickly took the lead for good with four runs on four hits in the bottom of the opening frame. Jack Vonderhaar doubled in a pair of runs to get the scoring started.

A pair of walks and a single to lead off the third resulted in another run for DeSales, cutting the lead to just 4-2 after three innings. The Bulldogs then loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth, scoring on a wild pitch. DeSales left the bases loaded, though, and the Tigers still led 4-3.

Trinity blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to take control with a 9-3 lead. Scott Petersen dropped a two-run double down the left field line to highlight the Tiger scoring plays.

After DeSales stranded two runners in the seventh without scoring, Trinity added more runs on the board with Ezra Gore's two-run single. The Bulldogs did cut into the lead with two runs in the eighth, but the Tiger lead was too much to overcome in the end.

NOTABLES

The Tigers improved to 11-2 this season, while DeSales dropped to 4-8 overall.

Scott Petersen picked up three of Trinity's 11 hits on the night, going 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Jack Vonderhaar drove in two runs with his team-leading sixth double of the year, while Ezra Gore and Nathan Braulick drove in two runs each for the Tigers.

Seth Jones and Mason Meredith scored twice, while Jones tied a school record by drawing four walks in the game. Jones is the first player to get walked four times in a game since Connor Moore in 2016.

Senior Branden Hance (2-1) came on in relief to earn the win for Trinity, giving up a run on two hits in his 1.2 innings of work. Fellow seniors Devon Wright, Will Insull, and Carter Fronk all saw action in relief as well.
