SCAC News Release
Voting was conducted exclusively by conference Senior Woman Administrators. Holland will now be nominated for the 30th annual NCAA Woman of the Year Award, which honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, community service, and leadership.
Since the conclusion of her senior campaign back in March, the Georgetown, Texas-native has graduated from Trinity with four Dean's List appearances on her way to a major in Communications. She has also been tabbed for the D3Hoops.com All-Region and All-America teams, as well as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention team. Holland has also been awarded the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate and Jim McKay Scholarships.
"Winning this award is so meaningful because while it highlights my hard work, nothing worthwhile is achieved without group effort and sacrifice," said Holland. "I am grateful for my four years at Trinity and in the SCAC because of the people I was surrounded with each day. They believed in me and pushed me to be my best. Thank you to everyone that was a part of achieving this success! I will always cherish being a Together Tiger."
After earning her third All-SCAC First Team selection, Holland became the fifth All-American in the eight-year tenure of Head Coach Cameron Hill.
"It is always special when you see people appropriately recognized for the impact they have made," said Hill. "I will never get tired of talking about Abby Holland's greatness, much in the way she never got tired of giving her absolute best to our University and our Together Tigers! To call her the standard would set an unreachable bar, she is truly a one-percenter."
The SCAC Academic Honor Roll mainstay has proven herself in ways both off the court and outside the classroom, as Trinity Director of Athletics Bob King is swift to make note of, having spent time as the team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and volunteering with STRAPS Sports since 2016 among other volunteering efforts.
"It has been amazing to watch Abby's development over the past four years as a Trinity women's basketball player," King said. "I have enjoyed opportunities to work with Abby on various meetings and in her role with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and she is a shining example of what it truly means to be a Tiger student-athlete."
Holland has become the eighth Trinity student-athlete to collect the SCAC Woman of the Year award. Molly McCullough '19 of Trinity Women's Cross Country and Track and Field programs was the most recent recipient followed by Britney Sullivan (2018 - track & field), Brigette Lee (2016 - golf), Emily Jorgens (2015 - soccer), Abigail Loar (2012 - soccer), Hayley Emerick (2011 - diving), and Christyn Schumann (2006 - track & field).
