Box Score SAN ANTONIO - The Trinity University Men's Soccer squad remains perfect after downing Centenary College in an overtime thriller. First-year Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch) was the hero of tonight's match between the Gents and Tigers. The Rookie found the back of the net off of a beautiful ball from senior Fraser Burns (Dalry, Scotland / Garnock Academy) in overtime. TU improves to 8-0-0 (1-0-0 SCAC) while Centenary falls to 3-5-1 (0-2-0 SCAC).
Both teams played stout defense and only allowed few opportunities for either side to get a good shot off but when you are the no. 2 team in the nation you find a way to win. The Trinity backline played phenomenally, the group only allowed the Gents to take five shots during the entire match. In at goal for Trinity, junior Austin Wilman (Esher, England / Charterhouse School) made two saves by blocking the only two shots that came his way.
Michael Somerville (Ft. Worth, Texas / Arlington Heights), Joseph Kuri (San Antonio, Texas / TMI Episcopal) and Cain all led the team in shots attempted with three a-piece. All three Tigers made really promising runs throughout the night but the ball just did not want to find the back of the net. In the 83rd minute of the match, Somerville found space and made a run at the goal and kicked what looked to be the game winning goal but the shot ended up being wide left. That opportunity from the senior would be the last before heading into overtime.
With both teams desperately wanting to win, the Tigers and Gents came out very aggressive to start the extra period of play. Ultimately, the one shot taken in overtime proved to be the difference. After TU was fouled in the 93rd minute, Burns took a free kick that led to Cain heading in the golden goal.
Cain now has three goals in his rookie campaign with two of those being game-winners.
