The nation's second-ranked squad put the match away with a pair of strikes before the end of the seventh minute
SAN ANTONIO - No. 2 Trinity University Men's Soccer controlled the pitch at Paul McGinlay Field Friday night with a 7-0 drubbing of Austin College in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
The Tigers (12-0-0, 4-0-0 SCAC) locked in the 12th-straight to open their undefeated campaign in just the sixth minute as sophomore midfielder
Joseph Kuri (San Antonio, Texas / TMI Episcopal) delivered from just outside the six from the right side following a quick two-touch feed from just left of the 18 by senior midfielder
Fraser Burns (Dalry, Scotland / Garnock) and first-year defender
Hunter Cain (Katy, Texas / Cinco Ranch).
Cain returned just seconds later to power the first of two strikes of his own past the Kangaroo keeper following a right-side feed from junior midfielder
Chen Adjei (Euless, Texas / Trinity), still before the end of the seventh minute. Cain's team-best second goal came in the 36th minute unassisted to push the Tigers to a 4-0 advantage.
Senior midfielder
Connor Jones (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) punched the third goal through the Austin College defense, finally notching his first strike of the 2021 campaign following a lengthy postponement to his season debut. First-year forward
Michael Meese (Williamsburg, Va. / Jamestown) and Jones were the first reserves to collect points on the goal from the senior midfielder.
Meese's goal came just eight minutes after Cain's second for the halftime 5-0 margin on a blooper from the left side by sophomore defender
Jack Eubank (Raleigh, N.C. / Needham Broughton).
With the match convingly in hand, the Tigers dug in defensively and kept the Kangaroos to just two shots over the final 45 minutes. In the meantime, first-year defenders
Tom Whitwell (Warwick, England / Repton) and
Will Powell (Bexley, England / Beth) struck for Trinity's eventual 7-0 tally, the first collegiate goal for each of the rookie Englishmen.
