Box Score SHREVEPORT, La. - No. 3 Trinity University Volleyball improved to six-straight victories to open the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule Saturday afternoon with a straight-sets victory over University of Dallas on the campus of Centenary College.
The Tigers (16-1, 6-0 SCAC) have won 10 consecutive matches, the current conference streak included within that span, and have not ceded a single set to a NCAA III opponent while they've collected a pair of victories over nationally-ranked opponents.
Senior outside hitter Avery Tuggle (Cedar Creek, Texas / Cedar Creek) and sophomore middle blocker Maddie Fate (Croton on Hudson, N.Y. / Croton Harmon) led the scoring effort for Trinity as Tuggle logged a team-high nine kills on a .529 hitting rate and added a service ace for a team-high 10 points while Fate notched a team-best four blocks on top of an efficient seven-of-nine (.778) attack line.
Senior libero Sami Lin (Sugar Land, Texas / Fort Bend Christian) paced the defensive end with 10 digs over her two-set appearance while Fate's effort on the block, coupled with three blocks to senior rightside hitter Sara Flynn's (Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt) credit, led to a lowly .056 attack percentage for the Crusaders.
Senior setter Alexis Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas / Incarnate Word) directed traffic for 15 of Trinity's 34 assists on 40 kills, which led to another .300-plus hitting performance for the Tigers. Acevedo also pitched in offensively with a team-high three aces while being one of four Tigers to collect at least five digs in the contest.
Coach Speak
"We finished off the weekend with a strong showing against UDallas," Head Coach Julie Jenkins said. "Our liberos, Sami [Lin] and Nadia [Kern], along with our three outstanding setters led us to a .310 hitting percentage. Both Maddie [Fate] and Avery [Tuggle] led our team in kills with no hitting errors and both hitting above .500. Maddie had a career day hitting .778 and tallying 4 blocks! This is good momentum heading into next weekend!"
Shippin' Up to Boston
No. 3 Trinity Volleyball takes a break from the SCAC schedule next weekend as the Tigers hit the road to New England for four inter-regional battles.
The Tigers' upcoming four opponents in Boston have all at least received votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) rankings this season. No. 18 Massachussetts Institute of Technology, No. 25 Babson College and (RV) Tufts University all made an appearance on the most-recent poll.
