San Antonio – Trinity's women's swimming & diving team clinched the 2021 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday. It is the 21st overall SCAC title for the program, as well as the 18th consecutive championship.
The Tigers won the three-day event by more than 200 points, leading wire-to-wire, and finishing the meet with 1,029 total points. Southwestern (TX) University was second with 794 points, followed by Colorado College, Centenary (LA) College, Austin (TX) College, the University of the Ozarks (AR), and McMurry (TX) University. Trinity won three individual events and the meet's final relay, totaling 10 All-SCAC performances on Saturday.
Senior Mabel Fowler (Uvalde, Texas / Uvalde) was named the SCAC Co-Swimmer of the Meet for her performance this weekend, and she was also the SCAC Swimmer of the Meet and Swimmer of the Year in 2020. Junior Katarina Partalas (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan) earned the distinction of SCAC Diver of the Meet
In today's action, Fowler won her third consecutive title in the 200 backstroke on Saturday, and she was also the runner-up in 2018 – giving her four All-SCAC performances in her career in the event. Caroline North (Dallas, Texas / Booker T. Washington just missed earning all-conference status with a fourth-place finish.
Partalas finished off her sweep of both diving events after today's swim session, securing the top spot in Saturday's 3-meter competition. Sophomore Gabi Fulk (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Horizon) finished as the runner-up on the 3-meter, matching yesterday's performance on the 1-meter board.
First-year Caroline Myers (Austin, Texas / Bowie) took gold in the 200 butterfly, becoming the first Tiger women's swimmer to win the event since Lauren Clements in 2004.
Junior Morgen Reyna (Houston, Texas / Stratford) was the runner-up in the 100 freestyle race for the third consecutive season. First-year Emma Hagan (Overland Park, Kan. / Olathe East) joined Reyna on the All-SCAC list with her third-place finish. Junior Meghan Magill (Longmont, Colo. / Silver Creek) and first-year Mackenzie Gasner (Winter Park, Colo. / Trinity Preparatory School) finished fifth and sixth to give the Tigers four swimmers in the top six spots.
Junior Jadyn Trahan (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) was runner-up in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday to secure her second All-SCAC honors in the event, which follows her third-place finish in last year's meet.
Trinity had four swimmers in the top seven of the mile, led by All-SCAC performances from first-year Blythe Iverson (Aurora, Colo. / Smoky Hill) and sophomore Anabelle Conde (Houston, Texas / Saint Agnes Academy). Iverson was this year's runner-up, while Conde was third on Saturday after winning the event in 2020. Sophomore Karin Petersen (Cibolo, Texas / Randolph) finished fifth and junior Mary Doyal (Austin, Texas / Westlake) was seventh for Trinity.
The Tiger team of Hagan, Reyna, Magill, and Fowler took gold in the 400 free relay. Trinity has now won the event eight of the last 10 years, including five consecutive seasons.
Trinity is led by Head Coach Scott Trompeter, along with assistant coaches John Ryan and Kimberly Jones, and Diving Coach Stan Randall.
