#4 Baseball Finishes Weekend Sweep With Run-Rule Win

Box Score

San Antonio – The fourth-ranked Tiger baseball team finished off a weekend series sweep with a 19-3 victory over Southwestern (Texas) University on Sunday.

How it Happened

Despite the final score, it was actually Southwestern that jumped out in front early with a three-run first inning. The Tigers left the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning, but did manage to draw a bases-loaded walk with two outs to make it a 3-1 game.

Trinity pounded out six hits in the third inning alone, stamping seven runs on the scoreboard to take the lead at 8-3. Nathan Braulick (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian College Preparatory) and Cristian Holloway (Brownsville, Texas / Veterans Memorial) both had two-RBI hits in the inning. Brian Schaub (Hatfield, Pa. / La Salle College) cleared the bases with a three-run double to close out the scoring.

The Tigers took full control of the game with a nine-run fourth, giving the home team 16 of its 19 runs over the two innings. Tyler Pettit (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock) started things off with an infield single, then came up later in the inning to crush a grand slam over the wall in left field. Trinity had seven total hits in the inning and led 17-3.

Cade Momsen (Colleyville, Texas / Heritage) picked up his first career hit with an RBI double in the seventh, which turned out to be the final hit and final run of the day for the Tigers.

Notable Numbers

Pettit finished the game with five RBI and three runs scored in the game. He went 3-for-4 at the plate, including his first home run of the season. Braulick made the most of his season debut, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBI.

Rafe Chaumette (Sugar Land, Texas / Clements) went 3-for-4 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot in the lineup, and Jack Wisniewski (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian College Preparatory) also had three hits and three runs scored.

Holloway went 3-for-4 with a double, scoring two runs and driving in two more. Schaub collected four RBI for the Tigers, while Mason Meredith (Houston, Texas / Memorial) and Michael Herrera (Phoenix, Ariz. / Sunrise Mountain) scored two runs each.

Joseph Chavana (Laredo, Texas / J.B. Alexander) picked up the victory in his Tiger debut, striking out four batters and allowing three runs on four hits. Samuel Conte (Boston, Mass. / Phillips Academy) allowed just one hit over three shutout innings to close the game and earn his first save of the year.
