Box Score Alpine, Texas – The top-ranked Tiger baseball team suffered its first loss of the season to open up a three-game road series at Sul Ross State University on Friday night.
Trinity fell to 7-1 on the season after tonight's 11-4 defeat at the hands of the Lobos, snapping a 10-game winning streak that dated to the end of last season for the Tigers.

The Rundown
The Tigers opened the game with a bang, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning to jump in front; however, Sul Ross had a definitive answer in the bottom half, adding five runs of its own to take the lead after one.
The home team pitching staff settled in after that, holding Trinity scoreless over the final eight innings. The Tigers left 11 runners on base in the game, failing to score with the bases loaded with no outs in the fifth, and leaving the bases loaded in the seventh.
Jack Vonderhaar (Woodinville, Wash. / Redmond) got the scoring started for Trinity with a bases-loaded walk in the first, then Tyler Pettit (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to right. Jack Wisniewski (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian) finished off the scoring with a two-out, two-run double to left center.
Sul Ross added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to extend the lead to 7-4, then put up a four-run seventh to finish off the scoring and put the game out of reach.
The two teams combined to issue 20 total walks, including 11 drawn by Trinity batters. The Tigers were held to just six hits in the game, and Trinity's four errors led to three unearned runs.
Notable Numbers
Michael Herrera (Phoenix, Ariz. / Sunrise Mountain) and Wisniewski both collected a double among two hits each. Wisniewski led the way for Trinity with two RBI in the game.
Mason Meredith (Houston, Texas / Memorial) went 1-for-2 with three walks to reach base four of his five plate appearances.
Garrett Aylor (Austin, Texas / Westlake) was charged with the loss and falls to 1-1 this season. Aylor allowed six runs on six hits over three-plus innings of work, though three of the five runs allowed in the first were unearned.
