Box Score Lawrenceville, Ga. – The second-ranked Trinity University volleyball team had five players earn All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors for the 2021 spring season.
Seniors Avery Tuggle (Cedar Creek, Texas / Cedar Creek) and Annie Rose Leggett (Austin, Texas / Westwood) were both First Team All-SCAC selections for the second straight season. Juniors Sara Flynn (Seattle, Wash. / Roosevelt) and Lexie Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas / Incarnate Word HS) were selected to the All-SCAC Second Team, while sophomore Marisa Amarino (Calabasas, Calif. / Notre Dame Prep) earned a spot on the All-SCAC Third Team.
Tuggle was the SCAC Player of the Year and American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region honoree last season, as well as earning Second Team AVCA All-America distinction as well. Tuggle won her fifth career SCAC Player of the Week award in 2021, leading Trinity in both kills and points this season. She also ranked second on the team in digs and blocks.
Leggett earned AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention in addition to her All-SCAC selection last year. This season, she secured her third career SCAC Player of the Week award. Leggett leads the Tigers in digs and aces, as well as ranking second in both kills and points.
Flynn collected her first All-SCAC honor this season and is fourth among the Trinity team in kills and blocks in 2021. Acevedo and Amarino are also first-time All-SCAC recipients and the setting duo has accounted for nearly 550 total assists this season. The Tiger teammates have led the offense to an average of more than 12.50 kills/set and a .264 hitting percentage.
Trinity stands 13-2 this season and has advanced to the SCAC Tournament Championship match. Trinity will face Division III's top-ranked team in Colorado College on Saturday, May 1, at 12:00 p.m. (MDT) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Earlier this year, Colorado College handed Trinity its only losses of the spring season, 3-0 and 3-2 in Colorado Springs.
The Tigers are led by Head Coach Julie Jenkins, who is completing her 36th season at Trinity. She is seeking her 20th SCAC Championship this weekend and is nearing 1,000 victories in her coaching career.
