Trinity Extends Streak to 10 Games in Lopsided Road Win at St. Thomas

Box Score

HOUSTON – Trinity's women's basketball team saw its winning streak reach double digits in Thursday night's 84-56 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory at the University of St. Thomas.

The 10 straight wins for the Tigers ties for the fourth-longest win streak during the tenure of Head Coach Cameron Hill (2012-13 to present). The team improves to 11-2 overall this year and remains undefeated with a 4-0 mark atop the SCAC standings.

Ashlyn Milton (Amarillo, Texas / Amarillo) led five Trinity players in double figures with 17 points on 7-for-11 from the field. She also had a career-high six steals to go with four rebounds and knocked down 3-for-4 from three-point range in the game.

This was the third game in four days this week for the Tigers, though today was the first of those away from home. The busy week will end with a trip to Colorado Springs for a rematch of last year's SCAC Championship game against Colorado College.

The Rundown

Trinity jumped on top with a 7-0 run to start the game, though St. Thomas recovered quickly following an early timeout. The Celts made it a one-possession game with 4:30 left in the first quarter, then missed a chance to tie things up on its next possession. Kelly Simmons (Washington, D.C. / Antonian) scored a pair of layups to put the Tigers back in front 13-7 with more than three minutes left in the period. The teams traded baskets late in the quarter and St. Thomas got the final score to make it a 15-11 Trinity lead after one.

Maggie Shipley (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) scored six of Trinity's first eight points to open the second quarter, staking the Tigers to a 23-14 lead after just three minutes of action. The lead ballooned to 15 points as Trinity scored 14 of the first 17 points of the quarter. St. Thomas made just two field goals in the period and the Tigers reached halftime with a 33-21 advantage.

Any hopes of a comeback by the Celts were squashed in the third quarter as the Tigers caught fire after the break. Trinity scored the first eight points of the period to push the lead to 20 points, then used a 12-0 run late in the quarter to surge ahead by more than 30. The 31-point quarter put the visiting Tigers in front 64-35 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The lead dipped as low as 23 points midway through the fourth, put Trinity hit back-to-back three-pointers with under four minutes remaining to put the finishing touches on the victory.

Numbers to Note

Trinity shot just under 50% from the field for the game, including a touch over 39% from three-point range. The Tigers also forced 31 turnovers on 24 steals and held a 36-19 scoring edge in points off turnovers. Trinity nearly doubled up St. Thomas with a 46-24 scoring margin in the paint and led 18-4 in fast break points.

Shipley finished with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting, adding four rebounds in her 22 minutes on the court.

Hailey Coleman (Kansas City, Mo. / St. Teresa's Academy) hit 5-for-7 from the floor on her way to 11 points in just 17 minutes.

Simmons and Carly Leong (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) both scored 10 points and snagged five rebounds off the bench for the Tigers. Simmons also added three blocks and made 5-of-6 field goals.

Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) led the team with seven rebounds, tying for the team lead with five assists, and finishing as one of three Tiger players with four steals.

Emily Nelson (Sugar Land, Texas / Saint Agnes Academy) tied Robbins for the team lead with five assists, while Ava Limonciello (Waltham, Mass. / St. Mark's) and Bailey Timmons (Argyle, Texas / Argyle) each had four steals.

Mollee Priddy (Port Neches, Texas / Port Neches-Groves) just missed being the sixth Trinity player with 10 or more points, finishing with nine points on 3-for-5 shooting beyond the arc. Priddy has now hit 8-of-12 three-pointers over the last two nights.
