CLEVELAND – The sixth-ranked Tiger men's tennis team finished off its part in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Indoor Championships with a 5-2 defeat at the ends of #3 Washington University-St. Louis on Saturday morning.
Trinity was swept in doubles, though all three matches were competitive. Christian Settles (Claremont, Calif. / Claremont) and Hao Nguyen (Sugar Land, Texas / Strake Jesuit) played the closest match at line one, falling 8-7 in the final doubles match on the court.
The Tigers bounced back with a pair of wins in singles to make it a 3-2 match. Wilson Hamilton (Austin, Texas / ATA College Prep) began the rally at line five, winning 6-0, 6-2 to get Trinity on the board. Just a few minutes later, Alessio Azzalini (Rome, Italy / Istituto Paritario G. Visconti) took a 6-2, 6-4 decision at line three.
The Bears still controlled the match, though, having won the first set in each of the other four singles lines. Settles battled back in the second set, but eventually fell for the fourth point, then Washington-St. Louis clinched at line two to clinch the match.
