Box Score SAN ANTONIO – The Tiger women's basketball team extended its streak to 17 consecutive wins with a 74-51 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Austin College on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity equals its longest streak since the 2012-13 season, which is also tied for the longest streak in school history during the SCAC era (since 1991-92). Trinity also won 17 straight games over two seasons at the end of 2002-03 and the beginning of 2003-04. The Tigers improved to 18-2 overall and 11-0 in SCAC play this season, standing alone atop the conference standings.
Five different players scored in double figures in today's game, led by a double-double from senior Hailey Coleman (Kansas City, Mo. / St. Teresa's Academy). Coleman finished with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in just 23 minutes on the court, adding four assists and a pair of blocks.
Trinity continues a busy start to the month on Tuesday as the Tigers will host Schreiner University at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Wednesday night tilt against Texas Lutheran University at 8:00 p.m.
The Rundown
The Tigers never trailed in the game, rattling off eight straight points to open up the first quarter of play. Coleman picked up a pair of layups in that stretch and finished with 10 points in the quarter. Less than four minutes into the first period, Trinity's lead reached double digits and never dipped below that the rest of the way. The Tigers finished with an outstanding quarter, taking a 28-8 lead after the first 10 minutes of action. Austin scored just four points over the final 7:37 of the period as Trinity built an insurmountable lead.
Trinity held Austin without a field goal for nearly five minutes to start the second quarter, though both teams struggled to score early and the lead was just 22 at the midway point of the period. The Tigers outscored the 'Roos 13-10 in the period, getting a bucket in the final minute to make it a 41-18 halftime lead.
Ava Limonciello (Waltham, Mass. / St. Mark's School) exploded for 10 points to lead Trinity's efforts in the third quarter. She scored all 10 of her points less than four minutes into the period and keyed a 13-0 Tiger run to start the second half. The 54-18 lead wound up being the largest of the game, though Austin did hit a three-pointer in the final seconds to make it a 63-34 game heading into the final period.
Trinity scored just 11 points in the final quarter but the damage was done. The Tigers pushed the lead back over 30 points early in the quarter, but Trinity had jus three points the rest of the way - all of which were scored by Danielle Davalos (Austin, Texas / Westwood). Austin College closed the game by scoring 11 of the final 12 points.
Numbers to Note
Trinity held Austin College under 30% shooting in the game, while coming in at just over 49% shooting offensively. The Tigers also held an 18-point advantage (48-30) on points in the paint and forced 21 turnovers in the game.
Ashlyn Milton (Amarillo, Texas / Amarillo) led the game with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting, adding two assists and two steals.
Maggie Shipley (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) connected on 5-of-6 from the field, finishing with 13 points to go with four rebounds.
Limonciello added four rebounds and three steals to her double-digit afternoon, while Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) led the Tigers with five steals in addition to her six boards.
Carly Leong (Palo Alto, Calif. / Palo Alto) paced Trinity's reserves with 11 points, hitting 3-of-6 from the field and 5-for-7 at the foul line.
Kelly Simmons (Washington, D.C. / Antonian) just missed a double-double with seven points and 10 rebounds in just 13 minutes off the bench.
