SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity women's basketball team will continue Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on the road this weekend in North Texas.
The Tigers have started the season with 13 straight wins, which is just one short of tying the best start in school history. Trinity currently leads the SCAC with a 4-0 record and is the only team remaining that is unbeaten in conference play.
Last week, Trinity scored a pair of double-digit wins over both Schreiner and Colorado College – handing both teams their first SCAC losses of the season. During the holiday break between semesters, the Tigers scored a pair of wins over nationally-ranked teams. Trinity defeated No. 12/16 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor 74-63 on December 19, followed by a 78-69 win over University of Puget Sound on December 21.
By the Numbers
Trinity is one of just nine undefeated teams remaining in NCAA III this season, and the 13 wins by the Tigers are tied for the most in the country. With last weekend's wins, Trinity has now won 30 straight games against SCAC schools, which is the third-longest in the nation. The Tigers have also won 24 straight games at home to tie for the fifth-longest streak in NCAA III.
The Tigers are ranked in the top 10 nationally in 12 different categories so far this season and are leading the nation in assists per game. Trinity is also the fourth-best scoring offense nationally, holding the fifth-best scoring margin and sixth-best turnover margin in NCAA III.
NCAA III Polls: D3hoops.com and WBCA
Trinity held steady in third place in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association national poll, while D3hoops.com's latest ranking moved the Tigers up to second in the country. This marks Trinity's highest ranking since being the No. 1 team in the nation during the 2003-04 season.
Trinity Milestones
Ashlyn Milton (Amarillo, Texas / Amarillo) has moved even closer to the all-time record for career three-pointers made at Trinity. She needs just one more to tie the record and two more to eclipse the total of 190 established by Hannah Coley (2011-15). Milton is also the current three-point field goal percentage leader for a career, connecting on 39.5% (189-478) from beyond the arc.
Additionally, Milton is currently 16th on Trinity's all-time scoring list with 1,041 career points. She can claim a spot in the top 15 with just 12 more points, tying Melissa Carl (1999-03) on the list. Only 12 players in Trinity women's basketball history have scored 1,100 or more in a career.
Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) has moved up to 22nd on Trinity's career list for assists, needing 23 more to reach 200 in her career – only 17 others have eclipsed that total. Milton and Robbins are both in the top 25 in school history in career steals as well. Milton is tied for 16th in school history, while Robbins is just three steals behind her teammate in 18th place all-time at Trinity.
Preview: Dallas (1/6) and Austin College (1/7)
Trinity sits tied atop the SCAC standings coming into this weekend's games, while Dallas is 3-2 in SCAC (7-5 overall) and Austin College is winless at 0-13 (0-5 SCAC).
The weekend begins against Dallas on Friday, and the Tigers hold a 41-4 record in the series with the Crusaders. That includes 20 consecutive victories for Trinity – the last six of which have been by 30 or more points. Trinity holds a 27-18 record against Saturday's opponent in Austin College. The Tigers have won seven of the last eight meetings, including four consecutive wins following Austin's win in the 2020 SCAC Tournament Championship.
Looking Ahead: Texas Lutheran (1/13) and Southwestern (1/14)
Trinity's SCAC road trip will continue next weekend as the Tigers face off against the two teams currently tied for second in the standings. Texas Lutheran recently handed Southwestern its first SCAC loss of the season and the Bulldogs have won four straight in conference play.
