Milton Tops All-Time Three-Pointer List, No. 2 Women’s Hoops Ride Past Austin, 79-60

Ashlyn Milton entered Saturday’s SCAC contest tied for the career-record of 190 successful attempts from beyond the arc, posted five in the category en route to a game-high 21 points.

Box Score SHERMAN, Texas – Senior forward Ashlyn Milton (Amarillo, Texas / Amarillo) assumed the top spot for made three-point shots in the history of Trinity University Women's Basketball Saturday afternoon as the second-ranked Tigers defeated Austin College, 79-60, on the road in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
 
Milton entered the day tied for the record at 190 made three-pointers with Hannah Coley (2011-15) but waited less than three minutes to break the draw in Trinity's record book with the first of five makes in the contest for a game-high 21-point performance.
 
The Tigers (15-0, 6-0 SCAC) posted 14 unanswered points for the first 5:42 of the contest, eight of which from Milton. After a strong defensive start, Trinity opened fire for a 10-for-14 second quarter and a 45-25 halftime lead.
 
Junior Maggie Robbins (Plano, Texas / Plano) came within two baskets of a double-double with a career-high nine assists to go with eight points. Sophomore Josie Napoli (Beaverton, Ore. / Valley Catholic) and senior Claire Hale (San Antonio, Texas / Brandeis) collected seven steals combined including two each in the opening quarter.
 
Trinity was called for a season-low 11 personal fouls, spending only the final 53 seconds of the first half in the bonus while tallying just two fouls in each of the first, third and fourth quarters. The team's four games with the fewest fouls called this season have all come in SCAC contests while Friday night's 78-67 victory at Dallas saw the team's second-most of any contest this season (29).
 
No. 2 Trinity Women's Basketball will remain on the road next weekend to visit Texas Lutheran University (Jan. 13) and Southwestern University (Jan. 14) to complete its four-game SCAC road trip. 
 
The Rundown
 
Milton took less than two minutes to log her first attempt from outside Saturday afternoon, though her second at 7:37 proved to be the record-breaker, which marked the halfway point of 14 unanswered points to open the contest.
 
A second make from distance for Milton just over 90 seconds later marked three straight assists for Robbins on Trinity's first three made field goals.
 
All five starters posted at least one steal in the 16-6 opening frame—including pairs from Napoli and Hale—as the Tigers collected nine of the team's 18 forced turnovers in the first 10 minutes.
 
The offensive efficiency took a massive step forward in the second quarter as Trinity shot 10-for-14 (71.6 percent) from the floor including a 4-for-4 from Milton with three more from deep for 19 of her 21 points.
 
While the Kangaroos drew back to within eight, 28-20, with 4:19 to play before the half, the team's fourth made three-pointer from junior Jennifer Tierney (Orinda, Calif. / Miramonte) ended the half with the first 20-point led, 45-25.
 
The first 30-point advantage came with 4:07 remaining in the third quarter as Robbins found senior Emily Nelson (Sugar Land, Texas / Saint Agnes) inside to mark her ninth and final assist of the night.
 
The spread hovered around 30 points for the next seven minutes of action as the second of a pair of made free throws from first-year Natalie Anderson (San Jose, Calif. / Archbishop Mitty) marked the final such advantage, 73-43, with 7:05 left to effectively maintain Trinity's undefeated start through 15 games this season.
