Trinity University Swim and Dive get their 2023-24 season started as they travel to Colorado Springs to compete against Colorado College on October 13th and October 14th.
The 2022-23 season was electric for the Tigers. On the women's side, they would send a school-record 10 individuals to the NCAA III Championships and crown four All-American Swimmers. Not only that, the women would also sweep the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) awards by taking home swimmer and diver of the year. The Tiger women will be scary this year, as they return all four of their All-American swimmers, highlighted by sophomore
Neely Burns (Phoenix, Arizona / Thunderbird) who was the SCAC Swimmer of the Year. The other All-Americans returning are sophomores
Audrey Jacobson (Dallas, Texas / School for the Talented & Gifted) and
Erica Peterson (Lantana, Texas / Guyer), along with senior
Emma Hagan (Overland Park, Kansas / Olathe East). All of these swimmers are a part of the 800 yard relay team that finished top 20 at the NCAA III Championships. The Tiger Women finished the season ranked 16th in the country.
The men were also very decorated last season. The Tigers sent five men to the NCAA III Championships and came out with five All-Americans. Of those five, the Tigers only lost one going into the 2023-24 season. Leading the way for the Tigers will be senior
Michael Kohl (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) who earned All-American status for his performance in the 100 yard butterfly and was also named SCAC Swimmer of the Year. The Tigers will also be returning All-American 200 yard relay swimmers
Nathaniel Early (Austin, Texas / Westwood),
Kendal Southwell (Rio Rancho, New Mexico / Calvert Online Academy), and
Caleb Manifold (Helotes, Texas / Campolindo). Not only that, but the Tigers will also be returning the SCAC Diver of the Year,
Konstantine Partalas (San Antonio, Texas / Reagan). The Tigers would finish their 2022-23 season ranked 20th in the country.
Along with the return of the fantastic swimmers, the squad also added former Tiger All-American swimmers
Mabel Fowler and
Mark Lang to the coaching ranks. The diving team would bring in new head coach
Tommy Law.
Coach Speak
Third-year head coach
Cathleen Pruden is excited for the Tiger Men coming into the season, here is what she had to say.
"This is a very driven group of guys who have been getting loud in practice and are eager to compete. We are just starting to figure out our seven first-year men, but are excited to see their immediate contributions. They are a group with plenty of potential who could make a significant impact in their four years. Additionally, adding two new divers will be a boost on the boards. I'm ready to unleash them into a meet environment and see what they'll do."
She wouldn't forget about the Tiger Women, though, when she stated that, "We have taken advantage of our long course training to get into shape quickly, and already saw some promising results at our intrasquad meet. They're an enjoyable group to coach, as they have developed a nice balance between working hard and having fun. I think that energy will carry our women a long way this year. With eight of our ten NCAA qualifiers returning, we have the excitement and experience to chase some big goals the whole way into March."
