Domination In Shreveport: No.11 Tiger Volleyball Sweeps Centenary College

SHREVEPORT - No. 11 Tiger Volleyball decimated the Centenary College Ladies with a sweep on the final day of the SCAC Crossover hosted by Centenary College.

The Rundown

Set one started fantastic for the Tigers, jumping out to a 5-0 lead. The Tigers were rolling offensively, whoever got the ball would be able to put the ball to the floor. The Tigers had a plethora of scorers in the first set, but it would be senior Carley Broekhuizen (Kalamazoo, Michigan / Kalamazoo Christian)  who would lead the Tigers with four kills in the set. Before the Ladies could even reach double digits, the Tigers already had 23 points. When the Tigers got to set point, the Ladies would send a free ball over and the Tigers would do what they do best, get a quick set to the middle. First-year Kendall DeRivel (Westlake Village, California / Viewpoint) would give the quick set to Broekhuizen, who would set a rocket shot to the deep corner and the ball would be in to give the Tigers the set, 25-11.

Set two would start with a slam by Brette Thornton (Rockwall, Texas / Rockwall) from the middle. The Ladies would give the Tigers some trouble early in the set, but the Tigers stepped on the gas pedal and blew the game open 13-7. The Ladies tried to take a timeout, but the Tigers would be back on the attack instantly with an all-too-familiar slam by Mackenzie Logan (Calgary, Canada / Bishop Carroll). At the end of the set, sophomore Cassidy MacLean (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands) would send a float serve to the middle back that would be mishandled by the Ladies, forcing a free ball to the Tigers. Just like the first set, the Tigers would quick set Broekhuizen who would weave a shot through multiple Lady defenders and the ball would hit the floor. Tigers would take the set 25-12 and a commanding 2-0 set lead.

The third set would be utter domination by the Tigers. It didn't start out great though, as the Tigers would go down 1-4 early, but they were ready to flip the set on its head. The Tigers would outscore the Ladies 24-2. The Tigers would take over with multiple kills by Marissa Drange (Boerne, Texas / Champion) and Broekhuizen. MacLean would also carve the Lady defense with three service aces. The Tigers would win the set, 25-6, marking the new largest margin of victory for the Tigers this season.

Drange would lead the way for the Tigers with 10 kills and Broekhuizen would set a new career-high with nine kills. Defensively, it would be Jenna Rodriguez (San Antonio, Texas / Antonian) to lead the Tigers with 11 digs.

Up Next - Kerrville Krossover
