SAN ANTONIO – The Trinity women's soccer team closed out a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend at home with a resounding 6-0 victory over Austin College on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers improved to 5-4-2 overall and 2-0-0 in SCAC play to start the year, while the Kangaroos fell to 5-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in conference. Trinity scored three goals in each half of the game and held an astounding 39-1 advantage in total shots – including 21 shots on goal by the Tigers.
Bailey Meyer (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) had two goals in the game, including the game-winner in the first half of play. Today also marks the first multi-goal game in the career for Meyer, who has scored three of her five career goals this season.
Hanna Khan (Southlake, Texas / Carroll) scored in the first half, then assisted on the first goal of the second. Khan's goal was her second this season, while also picking up her third assist.
Lauryn Lewis (Carrollton, Texas / Creekview) and
Claire Binns (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) combined for the shutout in goal for Trinity, and today also marks the fourth shutout of the season for the Tiger defense – including the team's third consecutive clean sheet.
The Rundown
Trinity had several chances early in the game, but didn't break through until the 25th minute.
Emma Everts (Parker, Colo. / Ponderosa) stepped in front of an Austin College pass just outside the box and unleashed a shot from about 20 yards out, but it was saved and fell to
Michaela Bosco (Weatherford, Texas / Weatherford). Bosco had another shot that was tipped over the bar for a Tiger corner kick. Bosco's ensuing corner came to the near post where
Josephine McCray (Fairway, Kan. / Shawnee Mission East) fought off a pair of defenders to keep the ball in the air.
Taylor Campbell (Edinburg, Texas / Robert Vela) then headed the ball back to the middle of the field for Meyer, who lofted the ball into the left corner over the keeper for the goal.
The Tigers were back at it again with another score just 68 seconds later. Campbell picked up an unofficial assist on the goal, drawing a foul from about 30 yards out near the middle of the field. The ensuing free kick from Khan was a rocket shot from 30 yards out that she blasted over the keeper and under the bar for a 2-0 Tiger lead.
Trinity kept up the pressure despite the 2-0 lead, but were unable to add to that margin until the final minutes of the half. After Austin stopped
Kyra Stafford (Albuquerque, N.M. / Hope Christian) from getting into the box, Stafford dropped the eventual throw-in off to
Selah Havens (North Little Rock, Ark. / North Little Rock) who settled the ball and then crossed it deep to the far post. There were three Trinity players in the box, but
Maya Ozymy (Dallas, Texas / Coppell) was the one who headed it home for the 3-0 lead in the 43rd minute.
After halftime, Khan found herself lining up for another free kick in the 58th minute after Austin College was called for a handball just outside the 18-yard box. Khan went low for her shot this time and it was saved by the 'Roos keeper. The rebound was picked up and knocked in by Meyer from about five yards out for the 4-0 lead.
Just as they did in the first half, the Tigers followed one goal with another quick one – this time just 95 seconds after Meyer's second score. A Trinity throw-in led to the goal, but it caught just about everyone by surprise.
Erin Heath (Lake Jackson, Texas / Homeschool) eluded her defender, but instead of driving forward, she unleashed a shot from 40 yards out to make it a 5-0 lead.
The final goal was built up all the way from a Trinity goal kick with under 20 minutes remaining. Binns played the ball short and
Madisyn Barganski (Corpus Christi, Texas / Flour Bluff) slipped it past a defender across midfield for
Abby Schneider (Albuquerque, N.M. / Bosque School). Schneider beat a pair of defenders to keep moving the ball forward, where
Siena Robinson (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) found an overlapping Barganski who was running full speed towards the end line. She cut back and got into the box before crossing the ball back in front of the goal where three Tigers were waiting on it.
Kayla Boven (Katy, Texas / Tompkins) redirected that pass between the final defender's legs and into the net for her first career goal in the 74th minute.
