No. 16 Women's Tennis Rockets Through SCAC Openers

SAN ANTONIO – No. 16 Trinity University Women's Tennis opened the 2023 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a pair of shutout victories over Texas Lutheran University and University of St. Thomas Saturday at the Butch Newman Tennis Center.
 
The Tigers (5-2, 2-0 SCAC) found clinchers from sophomore Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene)—6-3, 6-0—in the first line against the Bulldogs and junior Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift)—6-0, 6-1—in the fourth line against the Celts.
 
Trinity's two ranked doubles teams each posted back-to-back scores between the two contests.
  • Hill and sophomore Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain)—NCAA III's No. 25 duo—went 8-3 from the first line twice.
  • Junior Cate Cushing (Colleyville, Texas / Heritage) and first-year Trinity Levy (Camarillo, Calif. / Weil Tennis Academy)—NCAA III's No. 16 pair—put together a pair of 8-1 tallies.
 
Kim and Cushing split line-two duties Saturday. The junior posted a straight-sets shutout against Texas Lutheran, then the sophomore finished 6-4, 6-0 against St. Thomas.
 
Hill—NCAA III's No. 45 singles player—patrolled the first line throughout the day with a 6-0 mark in each match. Levy defended her No. 28 singles ranking with a straight-sets shutout to open singles play in the afternoon.
