GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 20th-ranked Tiger men wrapped up their first day of action at the 2023 NCAA III Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday, with the 200 medley relay team earning Second Team All-America honors.
In addition to the 200 medley relay team, two Trinity individuals raced in the 50 freestyle. Junior
Michael Kohl (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) and sophomore
Caleb Manifold (Helotes, Texas / Homeschool) were both in the individual race, with Manifold finishing in 20.74 for 42nd place. Kohl missed out on the consolation final by just 0.02 seconds, finishing 17th in 20.29 seconds during Wednesday morning's prelims. It also marked the second-fastest times in the careers of both swimmers in the event.

Kendal Southwell (Rio Rancho, N.M. / Calvert Online Academy) and
Nathaniel Early (Austin, Texas / Westwood) in the prelims of the 200 medley relay race, qualifying for the consolation finals by finishing 16th in a time of 1:30.05. In the finals this evening, senior
Matteo Lanzara (Moraga, Calif. / Campolindo) swam leadoff, followed by Southwell, Manifold, and Kohl. The Tiger foursome improved their time and placement to 12th in a time of 1:29.42 to snag the All-American accolades. The finals time is the second-fastest time this season for the Trinity men.

We had two very solid 50s from Michael and Caleb this morning," began Head Coach
Cathleen Pruden.  "I'm pleased with the improvement the men's relay made tonight. Kendal had a fabulous split. Those swims set us up well for a big swim tomorrow."

The second day of action at the NCAA III Championships will see Trinity compete in both the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay to start and end the competition. The final relay lineup will be announced ahead of the races tomorrow, but three of the Tigers will be back in action individually as well. Manifold and Kohl are both competing in the 100 butterfly, while Early is slated to race in the 200 freestyle.
