No. 15 Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 24 Johns Hopkins, 6-3

The Tigers fell Thursday night to their visitors from the Centennial Conference despite taking a 2-1 advantage out of doubles

SAN ANTONIO – No. 15 Trinity University Women's Tennis continued its stretch of nationally prominent competitors Thursday night at the Butch Newman Tennis Center with a top-25 matchup against Johns Hopkins University (MD), falling to the visiting Bluejays, 6-3.

The Tigers (8-4) took a 2-1 margin out of doubles thanks to victorious efforts from sophomore duo Ruth Hill (Abilene, Texas / Abilene) and Olivia Kim (Phoenix, Ariz. / Desert Mountain) with an 8-2 line-one tally after reigning conference Doubles Team of the Week Ellie Hughes (Austin, Texas / Vandegrift) and sophomore Brooke Belitz (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Notre Dame) opened the scoring on an 8-1 third-line mark.

The tides turned after the early session as five of six first sets fell to Johns Hopkins, and four singles matchups required a full third set.

Hill—the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's No. 45 player in NCAA III—rallied from a 6-4 setback to defeat No. 27 Jay Xiao on marks of 6-1 and 6-0.

No. 15 Trinity Women's Tennis returns Friday night to battle No. 24 Colby College (ME), scheduled for another 6:00 p.m. first serve. The Mules also fell by a 6-3 margin to Johns Hopkins at the Butch Newman Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon.
