SAN ANTONIO – Trinity's softball team was swept 13-0 and 8-2 in a Friday night doubleheader that began a three-game Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekend series with No. 3 Texas Lutheran University.
Trinity fell to 7-25 overall and 4-9 in SCAC play, while Texas Lutheran jumped to 29-3 overall and 13-1 in league play. The Bulldogs scored 10 runs in the first three innings of game one, then added three more in the fifth to earn the run-rule victory.
The Tigers led briefly in game two as
Marina Delaluna (Concord, Calif. / Concord) smashed a solo homer to left-center in the bottom of the second inning. That home run made the junior Trinity's all-time leader in career home runs, breaking a tie with Caitlynn Dykes.
Jessie Lloyd (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) and
Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) were the only Tigers to get hits in the first game. Lloyd led off the bottom of the first with a hit, while Lee picked up a single in the final inning. Lee added another hit an one RBI in game two, while
Dawson Dabboussi (Dallas, Texas / Highland Park) finished with two hits in the second half of the twinbill.
Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, Calif. / Thousand Oaks) started game two in the circle for the Tigers and retired the first seven batters she faced. Delaluna put Trinity up 1-0 with her solo shot over the wall to lead off the second and give Trinity its only lead of the day. Texas Lutheran took advantage of a two-out error in the third to tie things up 1-1.
The Bulldogs took the lead with two more runs in the fourth and Trinity came up empty in the bottom of the inning despite putting the first two batters on base. Two more TLU runs in the fifth made it a 5-1 game, then the Bulldogs put the game out of reach with a three-run sixth. Lee picked up her RBI in the bottom of the sixth, lacing a two-out single to center to cut the lead to 8-2. That would be the final run of the game, though, as Texas Lutheran finished off the doubleheader sweep with a 1-2-3 seventh.
