IRVING, Texas – The Tiger baseball team finished off a weekend series sweep in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday, defeating the University of Dallas 10-0.
Trinity improved its overall record to 19-9 this season, while also pushing its conference record to 10-2 with the program's 27th consecutive win in the series with Dallas. The Crusaders fell below .500 for the year at 14-15, dropping to 5-7 in the SCAC this year.
Jackson Teer (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) gave up just two hits over his eight-inning outing, striking out 12 batters.
Harrison Durow (Dallas, Texas / Lovejoy) struck out the side in the ninth to close out the Tiger victory, giving up just one hit for the combined three-hit shutout.
Kai Tinker (Simi Valley, Calif. / Grace Brethren) went 3-for-5 with two doubles to lead the team, while
Austin Davison (Park City, Utah / Rowland Hall) had a pair of singles. There were 11 different players with a hit in the game for Trinity's balanced offensive attack.
Brandon Nelson (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) scored three runs, while
Jack Peterson (Round Rock, Texas / Round Rock) and
Michael Montrezza (Los Gatos, Calif. / Leigh) finished with two RBI each.
Trinity will remain on the road for four more games next week, beginning with Tuesday's matchup with Concordia University (Texas).
The Rundown
Dallas got a hit with two outs in the bottom of the first, but didn't put another runner on base until the top of the eighth as Teer retired 19 consecutive batters.
Trinity got the scoring started in the second, beginning with back-to-back singles from Nelson and Davison. Montrezza drove them in with the third hit of the inning, then Harris made it 2-0 with a sac fly to left field.
The Tigers were unable to add to the slim lead until the seventh, as Tinker knocked a two-out double, stole third, and then scored on an error to make it a 3-0 game. Another two-out error in the eighth was even more costly for Dallas as the Tigers scored three runs after the miscue and took a 6-0 lead.
Trinity piled on four more runs in the ninth, beginning with a pinch-hit triple by Peterson that scored both Nelson and
Hunter Nevilles (Corpus Christi, Texas / Calallen). Montrezza picked up a sac fly for the third run of the inning that scored Peterson, then two more pinch-hitters combined to score the final run.
Tanner Haney (Waco, Texas / Waco) started it with a pinch-hit single, then stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch.
Michael Lustina (Austin, Texas / Westlake) drove Haney in with a single to center to finish off the day's scoring.
Up Next
The road trip continues early next week for the Tigers, who will head to Austin to face off against Concordia University at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
